Tourist licence on the Costa Blanca and Valencia region (CV-VUT)
Your holiday let must be entered in the Registre de Turisme de la Comunitat Valenciana, and every advert must show the number. It looks like CV-VUT0514102-A; the final letter is the province: A Alicante, V València, CS Castelló. Advertising without that number and the exact location is a serious infringement on its own, at 10,001 to 100,000 euros.
If you own on the Costa Blanca, this is your register
Roughly two-thirds of the region's registered holiday lets sit in Alicante province. Torrevieja, Benidorm, Calp, Dénia, Orihuela and Xàbia hold the largest concentrations. For most British, Irish and Northern European owners in Spain, this is the register that matters after Andalusia.
The format most sources get wrong
Many guides, including some law-firm pages, describe the Valencian number as VT-000000-X. We checked every record in the live register - 90,006 of them on the day this page was last verified, and the live count is the one in the panel above, which moves with the nightly ingest rather than sitting frozen in this sentence. Every single one follows CV-VUT plus seven digits plus the province letter. Not one matches the format those sources describe.
This matters in practice. If you check your number against a tool that expects the wrong pattern, a perfectly valid licence comes back as "not found" - and "not found" is easily read as "unlicensed".
What the region requires
You file a responsible declaration (a sworn statement) to start the activity, enter the regional register, and obtain a municipal report of urban compatibility. Advertising must carry both the registration number and the property's exact location.
Since August 2024, the entry lasts five years rather than indefinitely. A renewal declaration falls due in the month before it expires. Each property must carry its own cadastral reference in the declaration and in the rental contract. Properties already on the register had until the end of 2024 to supply that reference or be struck off. So a number that worked two years ago is not proof of anything today.
What it costs to get it wrong
Two different things are punished here, and the milder-sounding one catches more people. Advertising a registered property without its number and exact location is a serious infringement in its own right, at 10,001 to 100,000 euros. That applies even though the property is perfectly legal and the paperwork is in order. The breach is in the listing, not in the licence.
Marketing, offering or advertising a property with no registration at all is a step up. The Valencian tourism law treats it as very serious, from 100,001 to 600,000 euros, and the fine can come with closure of the activity. The same conduct in Andalusia sits in a band of 2,001 to 18,000 euros. Which side of the regional border a property sits on changes the exposure by roughly a factor of thirty.
If you use an agent
The Valencia region is one of the communities with a compulsory register for estate agents - the RAICV, created by Decree 98/2022. It requires accredited training, professional indemnity insurance and a guarantee over client money. It is worth asking your agent for their number.
If you are the agent, the exposure is not only your client's. The law reaches whoever carries on the activity without a filed declaration. It puts the holders of advertising and marketing channels under the e-commerce regime. And it makes the owner only subsidiarily liable - second in line, and only when asked to name the operator and declining to. The file starts with whoever put the property on the market.
