How to apply for a tourist licence in the Region of Murcia

You file a responsible declaration (declaración responsable, a sworn statement) with the ITREM, the regional tourism institute, and the dwelling enters the Register of Tourism Enterprises and Activities with a VV.MU reference number. Decree 256/2019 sets the material requirements, which are moderate by Spanish standards - far lighter than the Balearics.

One declaration, one register

Murcia keeps it simple. You file a responsible declaration with the ITREM - the Instituto de Turismo de la Región de Murcia - and the dwelling enters the Register of Tourism Enterprises and Activities. There is no municipal report to obtain first, no places to buy, no per-island variation. Decree 256/2019 sets the material requirements for the dwelling, and they are moderate compared with what the Balearics or central Madrid demand.

The signatura, and where it must appear

Your entry carries a signatura (reference number) in the form VV.MU.6935-1 - the file number, then a hyphenated digit for the dwelling. It must appear in all advertising, and the sanctions regime under the regional tourism law reaches whoever advertises without registration, not only the owner.

Copy the signatura exactly from the registration document into every listing. Murcian adverts are full of numbers written from memory - extra dots, missing hyphens, the final digit dropped - and a mistyped number reads as "not found" to anyone who checks it, including the platforms.

After the number - keeping it

Once the signatura exists, the job becomes keeping it valid. Murcia's register is public, and it is where a deregistration or a divergence surfaces first - before any letter, before any portal takedown. We mirror the ITREM list nightly and check your numbers against it, so a change in your entry reaches you the morning after it happens, not when a guest is already booked in.
