Holiday letting licence in the Canary Islands (VV)
A Canarian holiday let must appear in the Registro General Turístico de Canarias, the regional tourism register. The code is structured, like VV-38-4-0106032: type, province (35 Las Palmas, 38 Santa Cruz de Tenerife), a control digit and a sequence. Around 8% of entries still carry the older A prefix.
Reading a Canarian number
It is not a flat sequence. VV-38-4-0106032 breaks into type, province code, control digit and number. Guides that describe the format as a simple VV-012345 do not match what the register publishes.
Tenerife holds the largest share in our mirror, followed by Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
One difference that catches people out
The Canarian register does not publish a cadastral reference - the official ID each Spanish property has in the land records. In Andalusia and Valencia, we can rescue a mistyped licence number by matching the property through that reference. In the Canaries, that safety net does not exist. One wrong digit behaves exactly like a licence that was never issued.
If a Canarian number comes back as not found, check the original document before you conclude anything.
The time difference is not a detail
The Canaries run an hour behind mainland Spain. Compliance checks run overnight, and the alert lands first thing. That hour decides whether your team reads it before or after the office opens.
